Gerund and Infinitive

There are certain words in English that are usually followed by an infinitive or gerund

When one verb follows another, the second verb is either a gerund or an infinitive. Some verbs that are followed by a gerund are related in meaning, this verbs show personal tasted: adore, like, don't, mind. 

Infinitive

Object + infinitive
These verbs are also related in meaning and show one person or thin influencing the actions of another

Examples: warn, tell, advise, urge, force, allow.

Example: She warned him not to go there

Use infinitive:
-As the subject of a clause  -> To know  you is to love you
-After certain expressions (without "to") -> Why not go to the cinema?
-After certain verbs (with "to")  -> He wants to swim.



Gerund

Certain words are followed by an -ING form

 -ING  form of the verb
-Verbs that are followed by a preposition use the gerund

Example: I look forward to meeting her

Always use:

-As the subject of a clause-> cycling is good for your health
-After certain adjectives-> He's afraid of going by plane
-After certain verbs -> I enjoy cooking

And that's an example of a simple conversation, we use gerunds and infinitives everyday and everywhere
